The Future Is Queer honors that cinematic tradition: stories that refuse the “acceptable” version of queer life, expand identity beyond labels, and treat self-expression not as something to defend, but as something deeply human and essential to the stories of tomorrow.

In a moment of renewed pushback and uncertainty, we choose to lead with hope. We believe in a future shaped by compassion, connection, and mutual respect—one where no one is reduced to a category or made to feel smaller for being themselves. This year, we’re not only screening films—we’re screening possibilities: bold, boundary-breaking work that insists the future can be brighter, more inclusive, and more expansive.

This year’s SF Queer Film Fest brings together a bold and wide-ranging collection of stories about who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going. From queer history, trans resilience and lesbian activism to love, sexuality, aging, immigration, chosen family and imagined futures, these films celebrate the full complexity of LGBTQ+ life. Funny, provocative, intimate and sometimes wonderfully strange, the 2026 program reflects a community that refuses to be defined by a single narrative.
